Sindh Government has recommended 40 personalities including Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui, Dr Noshad Shaikh, Sharfuddin Memon, Rubina Mustafa Qureshi, Professor Dr Fazal Ahmed, Abdullah Dadabhoy, Liaqat Soldier and others for Civil Awards in different categories, which would be conferred on on March 23, 2012 (Defence day).

This is a routine practice that with the recommendations of the provinces the Federal Government used to confer Civil Awards on different personalities for their services in different fields on Defence Day every year. Following the practice, Sindh government has recommended 40 names including Professor Dr Noshad A. Shaikh for Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Sharfuddin Memon (Consultant Home department) for Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui, former Vice chancellor University of Sindh Jamshoro, for Hilal-e-Imtiaz.

As per the list of recommendees prepared by Sindh Chief Secretary's office, a copy of which is available with Business Recorder, the Antiquities department has recommended the name of Dr Qureshi Hamid Ali Khanani (late) researcher/historian for Hilal-e-Imtiaz (posthumous), Sports and Youth Affairs department recommended Khuwaja Saeed Hai (Sports/Tennis) for Sitara-e-Imtiaz and Law & Parliamentary Affairs department recommended Professor Dr Akbar Haider Soomro (Administration) for Pride of Performance.

The provincial culture department has recommended six personalities including late Feroze Gul (Late) musician, vocalist and compose, for Pride of Performance, Mohammad Siddique Allias Servech Sujawali (poetry) for Pride of Performance, Mohammad Khan Majidi (Late), poet/writer, for Pride of Performance, Ms Rubina Mustafa Qureshi (Music) for Pride of Performance, Gul Hassan Kalmati (writer) for Pride of Performance and Late Ms Roshan Atta (Art/Show business) for Life Time Achievement Award.

Sindh Governor's Secretariat has recommended 17 names in this regard including Hafiza Dr Farzana Suleman (Academic Distinction award) for Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Shaheed Mohammad Naveed Yunis (public servant/ service to humanity) for Sitara-e-Shujat, Al-Haaj Siddique Ismail (Art/ Naat Khuwani) for Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Ishtiaq Baig (public service/ social service) for Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Haji Mohammad Hanif Tayab (social work) for Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Mohammad Saeed Siddiqui (Public service/literature) for Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Syed Ameer Imam (Arts/ Tv Producer/ Director) for Pride of Performance, Mohammad Zaki (Qawali) for Pride of Performance, Professor Dr Fazal Ahmed (Public service/ Education and Religion) for Pride of Performance, Nazeer Ahmed Soomro (sports) for Tamgha-e-Khidmat, Dr Rahim Bux Bhatti (public social services) for Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Noman Abid Lakhani (public service) for Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Abdullah Dadabhoy (public service/education) for Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Late Waheed Ali (Art/Music) for Pride of Performance), Syed Sabihudin Sabih Rehmani (Art/ Naatkhuwani) for Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Professor Aijaz Ahmed Faruqi (Sports/Culture) for Sitara-e-Imtiaz.

Sindh Chief Minister's Secretariat has recommended nine names in various categories including Advisor to Chief Minister Sarfraz Rajar (President Sindh People's Cultural Wing) for Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Karam Khan Kaleri (Agriculture Research) for Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Professor Dr Syed Wadhal Shah (Science and Education) for Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Shaheed Abdul Aziz (public servant) for Hilal-e-Shujat, Aftab Ahmed Memon (writer) for Pride of Performance, Late Tariq Alam Abro (writer) for Pride of Performance, Late Liaqat Soldier (Artist) for Pride of Performance, Rehan Aazmi (Poet & Nooha-khuwan) for Pride of Performance, Dr Dur Mohammad Pathan (poet) for Pride of Performance and Altaf Aasem (poet/Scholar) for Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

Sindh Culture department has recommended Colonel Niaz Hamayuni (poet/scholar/historian/ researcher/ translator) for Tangha-e-Imtiaz and Atta Mohammad Bhanbhro (scholar) for Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. An official told this scribe that Sindh, like every province use to recommend names of personalities for the Civil Awards every year, but Cabinet Division has the authority to finalise the names.
