"Police, Rangers and other law-enforcing agencies carried out an unlawful and unwarranted raid at the residence of my 70-year old elder brother Nasir Hussain located at B-54/13 on the night intervening between 5th and 6th December 1995 after 12:00am in the night. They ransacked the house and arrested my 28 years old nephew Arif Hussain," the letter said. It further said that Arif Hussain had graduated from NED University of Engineering and Technology.
"He was supporting his family after completing his education through his job and by taking private tuition because my elder brother Nasir Hussain, who had discharged duties as a gazetted officer on various government posts before he retired, was living a retired life. Nasir Hussain and Arif Hussain used to offer prayers five times a day regularly and they did not have any semblance of connection with any political or social organisation, not even with the MQM. They had nothing to do with politics whatsoever. My 70 years old brother Nasir Hussain was also arrested after the arrest of Arif Hussain. My other brothers and sisters left their homes and shifted to the houses of their relatives after getting the information about the arrest of these two whereas the government agencies, along with the rangers, police and higher police official took my brother Nasir Hussain to the house of each and every one of my brothers and sisters for the purpose of arresting them as well. It was because of the grace of Almighty Allah that they had already left their homes and shifted to other locations. Finally the police, personnel of other law-enforcing agencies subjected both the father and the son to inhuman physical torture for three days. They were taken to Gadap in the outskirts of Karachi on December 9, 1995 and killed in a brutal manner and their bodies were dumped there. We obtained their dead bodies from the Eidhi Centre and performed their burial. No one has paid any attention to the investigation of their murder despite repeated demands even as of today, Wednesday, October 19, 2011," MQM chief wrote in the letter.
Altaf appealed to the CJ to solve the mystery of the barbaric and ruthless murders of his elder brother and nephew. He said that he is confident that the Chief Justice would start immediate proceedings by converting this humble entreaty and letter into a constitutional petition.
