The government has decided to confirm Anwar Yaseen, Acting Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, after extensive consultations and deliberations by the economic and political team of the country, it is learnt. Sources told Business Recorder that the summary proposing the name of Anwar Yaseen as Governor of SBP has already been moved by the Ministry of Finance and is expected to be signed by President Asif Ali Zardari.

The choice of Anwar Yaseen was reportedly made by the economic as well as political team of the country after consideration of various aspects including his reputation and performance during the last three years after the resignation of Shahid Kardar from the top position of the Bank.

An official said that the government, especially the high ups of Finance Ministry, were satisfied with the performance of Yaseen, and considered him the best choice for the post. His name was proposed to the Prime Minister who added his support and sent the proposal to the President for approval and notification. According to him, Shamshad Akhtar's name was never under consideration for the post.
