SSP, Crimes Investigation Department (CID), Chaudhry Aslam and his family on Monday survived a suicide blast, but eight others - six of his guards, including a woman and her son - were killed in the attack at residence on Khayaban-e-Rumi, DHA Phase-VIII, in the limits of Darakshan police station.

According to police and eyewitnesses, at around 7:35 am, an unidentified man, said to be associated with one of the militant groups, rammed an explosive-laden van into the house of Chaudhry Aslam on Khayaban-e-Rumi, Street No 32, Phase-VIII, leaving eight persons dead and several others wounded.

Following the incident, rescuers from different organisations, investigation agencies and other concerned authorities rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies and injured to hospital. Experts of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) also collected evidence from the spot to ascertain the modus operandi of the blast.

DIGP South Commander Shaukat Hussain told Business Recorder that SSP Aslam and his family remained unhurt in this incident while eight others including six policemen and a woman and her son lost their lives. He said that it was premature to fix the responsibility of this incident, and added that all investigation agencies were taken on board in this regard.

He said all evidences were collected from the spot for forensic examination. He According to him, not only has the blast completely destroyed his house but it also damaged other nearby houses. Moreover, he said, two children of the SSP were slightly injured and were shifted to a private hospital for treatment. He said his family was shifted to some safer place after the incident.

Investigation officers were of the view that the terrorists hit an explosive-laden jeep to the main gate of the house. According to BDS official, around 300-kg of high explosive material with nuts and bolts was used in the attack. DIG CIA Iftikhar Tarar said that although this attack was initially described as suicide attack, the investigation agencies did not find any body part of the suicide bomber.

According to eyewitness, the blast was so big that it damaged some six vehicles parked outside the house. They said that there was security negligence, which led to the said incident as over a dozen of security personnel were deployed outside Aslam's residence. They said that a six-foot-deep crater was created by the blast. Meanwhile, SSP Aslam held Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) responsible for this attack and vowed to take stern action against it.

Dr Seemin Jamali, in-charge of Emergency in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), confirmed that the hospital had received bodies of six cops and a minor boy Moid and his mother Mumtaz Bibi. City Police Chief Saud Mirza said that security was on high alert as the department had received possible threats of this sort of incident. He said that over 300-kg explosive material was used in the attack.
