Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani chaired the 142nd Corps Commandeers conference at General Headquarters, here on Thursday, according to an ISPR press release. There was, however, not a single word in the press release (issued several hours after the meeting) about the discussion among the commanders at the meeting which lasted for nearly seven hours - one of the longest corps commanders meeting in the history of the country.

However, sources said the corps commanders once again showed their serious concern over the Karachi situation but reiterated their position that the army would continue to back the rangers and civilian administration in bringing peace in the mega city. The army chief also briefed the corps commanders about his visit to Chitral where checkposts of army came under attack recently.

It has been further learnt that recent operation against al Qaeda leaders in Quetta was also discussed. The Director General ISI briefed the meeting about the arrests of Sheikh Younis Al Mauritania along with two of his associates. The corps commanders also took review of ongoing intelligence sharing with the US.
