The Law Ministry has finally written a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan for nominating a Judge to head the Abbottabad Commission. In keeping with a resolution passed by a joint session of parliament last month, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had announced formation of a commission, to be headed by a Supreme Court Judge, to ascertain the facts regarding Bin Laden's presence in Pakistan and investigate the US operation, killing the al Qaida leader on May 2.

The Federal Law Secretary, Masood Chishty, in a letter, written to Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, on behalf of the Law Ministry, has requested the CJP to nominate a Supreme Court Judge to head the commission to conduct probe into the Abbottabad incident. According to sources, the letter, written on June 19, has been received by Supreme Court Registrar, which will be presented to Justice Chaudhry on Monday, after which nomination of a Judge to lead the commission may be announced.
