Eight persons including two leaders of the Salarzai tribe were killed and eleven others injured in a suicide blast in Pashat, Bajaur Agency on Saturday. The injured were rushed to Agency Headquarters Hospital, Khar for medical treatment. The condition of three injured was stated to be critical.

According to locals and officials of the political administration, the explosion was occurred at 10am about 30-kilometer North-West of the agency headquarters Khar in a café of Pashat, a central area of the tehsil Salarzai of the Bajaur Agency. Eye witnesses said that a top leader of the Salarzai tribe, Malik Tehsil Khan and his associates were present in a tea shop, when a 16- year-old boy entered the hotel and sat with them. Right after few seconds a powerful explosion was occurred as a result four persons died on the spot.

The locals said that the age of the suspected bomber was between 15 to 18 years and he didn't sound local. Another, eye-witness Gul Zada told that the suicide bomber soon after entering the hotel asked a waiter for a soft drink. But, he instead of drinking the bottle touched it with his head, which frightened people and they tried to leave the hotel then the suicide bomber exploded himself. Some locals said that the real target of the bomber was Malik Tehsil Khan, who had played active role in mobilising people against the militants. He was constantly receiving threats.

After the blast local volunteers launched rescue and relief operation and shifted the injured to Agency Headquarters hospital. The local faced hardships in shifting the injured due to long distance and bumpy road. Talking to the media, Additional Medical Superintendent, AHQ, Khar Dr Khan Saeed said that 10 injured were shifted to the hospital while the condition of three more injured was stated to be critical.

The Political Agent, Bajaur Agency, Zakir Hussein Afridi, Commandant Bajaur Scouts, Colonel Raja Mohammad Nawaz along with civil and military officials rushed to the hospital and enquired about the health of the injured. According to hospital sources, tribal leader, Malik Tehsil Khan, Sher Khan, Ihsan Khan, Said Ahmad Jan and Shad Mohammad have been killed while the injured were Mohammad Yar, Sher Zaman, Zarawar Khan, Abdul Majeed, Ali Ahmad, Sardar Khan, Noor Rehmat Shah, Sherwan and Noor Faraz.

Conversely, the elders of the Salarzai tribe have termed the suicide explosion a coward act and said that such kind of attacks will never demoralise them and pledged to continue battle against such terrorists. Meanwhile, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar has strongly denounced the terrorist act against the innocent people of Bajaur Agency describing it a bare barbarism and an inhumane act of those disgruntled elements that had no respect for humanity. He expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives. "I am shocked and grieved", he added.

In a statement, the Governor said that by targeting the innocent people the terrorist had been trying to fulfil their wicked designs but they would never be successful as the government, the security forces and the people were united in their resolve to eliminate the terrorists and the terrorism.

The Governor lauded the efforts and sacrifices rendered by the tribesmen particularly by the members of Peace Committees and Lashkars, who sacrificed their lives in the larger national interest and peace in the country. He said that these sacrifices would not go wasted and peace would be maintained at every cost.

The Governor appealed to the tribesmen to remain united and committed against terrorism. The government was at their back. The Governor expressed complete solidarity with the tribesmen of Bajaur Agency particularly the aggrieved families. He prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased and fortitude for the bereaved families. Meanwhile, the Governor has directed the political authorities of Bajaur Agency to provide every possible assistant to the affected families and take extra care of those who got injured in the blast.
