Commander 5 Corps and President Executive Board DHA Lieutenant General Zahir-ul-Islam inaugurated the newly established AK Khan Tissue Culture Lab at the Garden Centre of Horticulture Society of Pakistan (HSP) in DHA Phase-II here on Thursday. The pilot project for promotion of horticulture science in the country envisages mass production of plants and flowers under controlled environment by employing modern tissue culture technique.

Corps Commander lauded the efforts of HSP for promoting greenery and natural beauty in the metropolis and for acquiring the modern tissue culture technology. He termed the establishment of the tissue culture lab as a bold initiative heralding a new era of progress and development in the field of horticulture science.

Lieutenant General Zahir-ul-Islam said it was heartening to know that organisations like HSP were engaged in promotion of healthy activities like pursuits for preservation of natural environment and looking after the nature, added that promotion of such like activities would rid us of all polarisation in the society and help in creating peace, tranquillity and brotherhood in the country. The Corps Commander assured HSP of DHA's full support in promoting greenery and other horticultural activities in the metropolis.

HSP Chairman Lieutenant GenJehanzeb Arbab (Retd) said the pilot project had been set up with the assistance and guidance of Dr AK Khan. He thanked Karachi University's Tissue Culture Department and Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) for their active back up technical support for establishment of the project.-PR
