The police personnel were busy offering morning prayers when the attackers rammed an explosives-laden vehicle against the building of the police station situated near some sensitive installations. According to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP), Operation, Ejaz Khan, the terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle against the gate of the police station. He said that at the time of the explosion about 15 personnel were inside the building.
He said that about 250 to 300 kg explosive material was used in the attack. The explosion as so powerful that it rocked all the nearby areas of the Cantonment and City, and the two-storey building was totally destroyed. Several CID police personnel were reportedly trapped under the debris of the building. The staff of the Rescue 1122 recovered 11 police personnel alive among the debris of the building.
The injured and dead bodies were rushed to Khyber Teaching Hospital and Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) where emergency was declared and doctors were called ton duty. Hospital sources confirmed shifting of 17 injured, including 8 police personnel. Four seriously injured and those with head injuries were shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC). Nine injured, all stated to be CID personnel, were taken to LRH.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour condemned suicide attack and said that terrorists want to destabilise the country, and called for unity to fight a joint battle against them. Talking to media on visit to the destroyed CID police station, he said that terrorists are targeting police and security forces, but they will not demoralise the personnel of police and security agencies. He said that the planning and conspiracies of the terrorists would be foiled.
He said that a finger of the attacker had been found from the site of the incident, which has been sent for conducting DNA test. He said that other proofs were also being collected from the site. Meanwhile, Asfandyar Wali and Senator Afrasiab Khattak have strongly condemned suicide explosion on CID police station.
According to a spokesman of the Bacha Khan Markaz, Asfandyar and Afrasiab said that the terrorist are out to weaken the very foundations of the state, adding that war against them would continue at any cost. They said that conspiracies against Pakistan and people would never succeed.
Provincial Police Officer Fiaz Ahmed Khan Toru, during his visit to Khyber Teaching and Lady Reading Hospital, said that police jawans are precious asset of the force and all available resources would be utilised for their best treatment. He went to the bed of each injured police jawan and enquired after their health.
The police chief commended the courage and professional commitment of the jawans and said that no one can better compete the terrorists than the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police. He said that in fact KP police were writing history with their blood, "and I am proud commander of a proud force". He encouraged the injured jawans and prayed for their early recovery. The police chief also directed the doctors to take special care of the jawans and ensure timely provision of best treatment to them. CCPO Peshawar Liaqat Ali Khan accompanied the IGP to the hospitals.
