Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has notified new maximum sale price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) ranging between Rs 53.45 to Rs 58.78 per kg by amending pricing mechanism linking gas price with Gross Calorific Value (GCV) effective today (Tuesday). All Pakistan CNG Association had also supported the new CNG pricing mechanism that has resulted in different prices of CNG in different parts of the country.

Earlier, Ogra has been notifying CNG price province-wise. Ogra had taken up the issue with the Petroleum Ministry suggesting a change in the gas pricing mechanism as the CNG Association argued that gas utilities - SNGPL and SSGCL - were charging higher gas rates from all types of consumers after raise in GCV. "In the previous mechanism, Ogra had been taking average GCV to determine the gas price across the board but now different rates of GCV have been taken to determine the gas price," sources maintained.
