Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) No III, Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed resumed the hearing of the high profile assassination case and FIA prosecutor presented the interim challan. The ATC rejected the bail application of two detained senior police officers, former City Police Officer Saud Aziz and former Superintendent of Police (SP) Rawal Town, Khurram Shahzad.
However, the ATC judge accepted the interim challan after their testimony, and presentation of evidence obtained from the two mobile phones. During the hearing the chief prosecutor of the FIA reportedly pleaded before the court that the preliminary forensic records obtained from cellular companies regarding the two BlackBerry cell phones of the slain leader confirmed contact between Musharraf and Saud Aziz.
The prosecution lawyer also informed the court that the former president had been giving orders to the CPO and SP on December 27, 2007, when Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in firing followed by suicide bombing. He said the Joint Investigation Team had tried a lot to include former president in investigation. In November 2010, Pervez Musharraf had refused to accept a 32-point questionnaire sent to him by the FIA to get a statement in the assassination case, the prosecutor said.
The defence counsel in his argument on the bail application of Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad pleaded before the court to accept the bail application of the two detained senior police officers, as so far the prosecution had failed to present any solid evidence against them. Malik Wahid Anjum said the investigation team has so far failed in presenting any convincing evidence against the two accused, however even then they were kept on 24-day physical remand. The learned judge rejecting the bail application of Saud Aziz and Khurram Shahzad adjourned the hearing till February 12.
