Raja Pervaiz Ashraf expressed the hope that the protesting KESC employees would return to their homes after ending their peaceful protests and they will attend to their duties on next day (Monday).
He said that they hoped the KESC Management and its employees would jointly serve the masses and further improve the power distribution and supply system in the city. He recalled that a three-member body was formed by the government to resolve the matter of restoration of the sacked employees of the KESC.
He said that he himself, Senator Mian Raza Rabbani and Federal Minister, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah were among the members of the committee.
The Federal Minister said that Karachi was the largest city of the country and the government wanted good relationship among employees and employers in the metropolis. He said the KESC was responsible to provide electricity to the largest city of the country and they did not want the people of the city to suffer.
Speaking on the occasion, MQM leader, Dr. Farooq Sattar informed that the meeting with the KESC Management was jointly chaired by Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad and Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
Dr. Farooq Sattar said due to deadlock between the KESC management and the employees the Karachiites were suffering. The Federal Minister for Water and Power also showed the order about withdrawal of the previous order of KESC Management pertaining to sacking of the 4500 employees.
Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said the withdrawal order had also been signed by KESC Managing Director, Tabish Gohar.
Earlier, the committee constituted by the Sindh government for restoration of the sacked employees of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), in its second meeting on Sunday asked the KESC management to reinstate the sacked employees.
The meeting was held at Sindh Chief Minister House here with Shazia Marri in chair. Besides KESC Managing Director Tabish Gohar and other officials , the meeting was attended by members of the body, including Amir Nawab, Rafiq Engineer, Rashid Rabbani, Waqar Mehdi, Khawaja Izhar- ul- Hassan, Senator Abdul Haseeb, Khalid Iftikhar and others, said a statement. The meeting discussed different matters related to the restoration of 4500 sacked employees of KESC.
Speaking at the meeting, the committee members reiterating their demand pertaining to immediate restoration of 4500 sacked employees of the KESC, said that the government and its coalition partners have firm stand on restoration of the employees.
They called upon the KESC management that the sacked employees be restored in the first phase and consequently other matters would be discussed.
The KESC management was of the view that it wanted to extend the voluntary retirement scheme for 45 more days so as to give an opportunity to the employees to get benefit from the scheme, but it could not restore the sacked employees.
The Committee rejected the proposal of the KESC management and called upon it to immediately restore the sacked employees. It also maintained that the way the employees were sacked, was illegal and illogical.
