The bus and oil tanker turned turtle and both the vehicles caught fire.
At least 20 to 23 passengers managed to escape from the bus, however, 33 others failed to survive and burnt alive. The Motorway Police immediately rushed to the spot and called ambulances from Karachi and Hyderabad. An official of the Motorway Police said that the charred bodies of the victims were taken out by cutting the wreckage of the two vehicles.
All the bodies were later shifted to Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad and Jamshoro while those who received injuries were shifted to hospitals in Karachi for first aid. The DIG, Motorway Police, Aftab Pathan, said the accident occurred as a result of negligence of the bus driver.
The District Police Officer Jamshoro Dr Farooq informed the media that around 45 to 50 passengers were onboard the bus when it hit the oil tanker, which contained around 40,000 littres of fuel.
The hospital sources said that due to decomposed condition of the bodies, the identification could not be made possible.
Meanwhile, two of the passengers have been identified.
Hospital sources informed that two out of 32 deceased have been identified as Bagh Ali Gopang of Taluka Mehrabpur, district Naushero Feroz and Odho Khan of Ghotki. The remaining dead bodies were shifted from Liaquat University Hospital Jamshoro and Hyderabad Branches to Edhi Mortuary Karachi on Sunday noon.
National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) while confirming deaths of 33 passengers-majority among them women and children-has issued a list of 16 injured persons. These persons are namely Shahdat Hussain s/o Mukhtiar Hussain, Pervez Shah s/o unknown, Muhammad Riaz s/o Khan Muhammad, Noor Hussain s/o Rahim Dino, Abid Hussain s/o Shakil Ahmed, Mumtaz s/o Abdullah, Sajjad s/o of Parial, Saddam Hussain s/o Abdul Ghaffar, Muhammad Umer s/o unknown, Ali Muhammad s/o Fazal Ali, Budhi Khan s/o Punnu Khan, Waheed Ali s/o unknown, Ghulam Muhammad s/o Khuda Bux, Ali Sher s/o Ahmed Khan, Abdul Ghaffar s/o Fazal Muhammad and Ahmed Khan s/o unknown.
