A Russian cargo plane crashed shortly after take off from Karachi Airport late Saturday night. The plane took off at 1.44 am from Karachi Airport and crashed within five minutes of the take off. Eyewitnesses say that the plane caught fire in one of its engine and within minutes crashed with a big bang near Dalmia Naval Colony.

Aviation sources said that eight member crew was on board. The plane was destined for Sudan. Rescue teams, police, Ranger and fire tenders rushed to the site and started rescue operation. Reports said that the plane fell on under construction buildings which collapsed. Flames and thick smoke were seen billowing from the wreckage of the plane. Fire fighters of CDGK and other rescue agencies were busy in extinguishing the fire. A private TV channel quoted CCPO Karachi that eight people were feared dead in the crash.
