The two-day Pakistan Development Forum (PDF) will begin today (Sunday) with detailed presentations by federal and provincial governments on future growth and development strategies evolved in the aftermath of devastating floods in the country.

Sources said there would be three sessions whereby presentations would be made by the provincial governments as well the government of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan about their development agenda. Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh would chair the session that would be co-chaired by Chief Ministers.

First session would be on the development agenda of Punjab government to be co-chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif with Finance Minister in the chair followed by session on Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa government. Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti would be present along with Governor Awais Ghani. In the session of Balochistan development agenda Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani would be present along with federal Finance Minister and provincial government would make presentation on the future development plan.

Similarly, Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Attique Khan and Gilgit Baltistan Acting Governor Wazir Baig would be co-chairing the sessions on development agenda of their respective governments. Second session would be on flood damage need assessment (DNA) reconstruction and early recovery disaster risk reduction and the Chairman National Disaster Management (NDMA) would make the presentation.

This would be followed by Disaster Need Assessment by World Bank and Asian Development Bank. This session would also include citizen damage compensation mechanism by the Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). The third session would be held on protecting the poor that would be chaired by Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and co-chaired by US Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke.

The Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Dr Shahid H Kardar would brief the forum about monetary policy and inflation. In the session of towards growth and sectoral reforms, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Nadeem ul Haq would give a presentation on growth and development strategy while Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf and Petroleum and Natural Resources Syed Naveed Qamar on power sector reforms and Oil and Gas sector, respectively.

Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Hina Rabbani Khar would brief the Forum on effectiveness of development plan and reforms strategy. The session would also be attended by Secretary of State for International Development United Kingdom Andreq Mitchel, Assistant Director International Monetary Fund (IMF) Adnan Mazraei Vice President World Bank, Asian Development Bank and other development partner states.
