Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Tuesday that renewed Afghan efforts to make peace with the Taliban and end the nine-year war would fail without Pakistan's help. Afghan President Hamid Karzai said this week he had renewed overtures to the insurgents, confirming in a US television interview that his government had been holding talks with the Taliban "for quite some time".

But Gilani told reporters in Charsadda that Pakistan had an essential role to play if there was to be any prospect of peace. "Nothing will happen without us, because we are a part of the solution, we are not a part of the problem," Gilani said. Gilani refused to be drawn on whether Pakistan backed Karzai's plan. "When Karzai shares his roadmap with America and they share the roadmap with us, then we will be in a position to comment on it."

APP adds: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Tuesday said appointment of Chairman NAB is an administrative matter and is not a binding on President to consult politicians before taking decision. He said this while replying to various questions of media men after addressing a ceremony of Waseela-e-Rozgar Scheme of Benazir Income Support Programme in Charsadda.

The Prime Minister said appointment of Chairman NAB is not a constitutional issue, which requires consultation of opposition leader and coalition partners. It was an administrative issue and, therefore, the President signed the summary without the consultation of coalition partners, he reiterated. In response to a question about hearing of NRO case in Supreme Court, the Prime Minister replied that he would not appear before the Supreme Court on Wednesday in the case as on this day Turkish Prime Minister is visiting Pakistan on his special invitation.

About change in government, Gilani said he is listening to such news for the last several months, adding major political parties are in coalition with PPP and no other could form better government than ours. Categorically ruling out the chances of mid-term polls, he said the country's situation does not permit even holding local government elections.

Propaganda about snap polls is just a rumour and nothing else. When asked as if Pakistan is taken on board in peace negotiation between Taliban and America, Prime Minister Gilani said peace in Afghanistan couldn't be brought without involvement of Pakistan.

About concern of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government over formula for distribution of aid being received by Pakistan under the Kerry-Lugar Law, the Prime Minister said the aid is delayed due to propaganda spread by vested elements about dissolution of government.

He held out assurance that no injustice will be done in distribution of aid received from foreign countries. He said even the amount collected under the Prime Minister Fund will also be distributed equally on the grounds that which province received much damage due to terrorism and flood. When asked about issuing of fact sheet against former President Pervez Musharraf by PML-N, Prime Minister said Pervez Musharraf had dethroned the elected government of Nawaz Sharif, which is a condemnable act.
