A serious dispute over sighting of Shawwal moon has once again hit the nation as there will be two Eids in the country. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Thursday that Shawwal moon was not sighted in any part of the country. The Eid-ul-Fitr, therefore, will be on Saturday. However, an unofficial moon sighting committee of Masjid-e-Qasim Khan of Peshawar announced on Thursday the sighting of Shawwal moon.

The meeting of an unofficial moon sighting committee was held at Masjid-e-Qasim Khan, which was chaired by Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai. Senior Minister Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa Bashir Bilour also attended the meeting. According to Popalzai, as many as 19 evidences of sighting of Shawwal moon have been received and the Eid will be on Friday. Talking to journalists, Bilour said the decision to celebrate Eid in the province on Friday was based on moon sighting.
