Talking to mediapersons, he said HEC has initiated degrees verification process by ignoring laid down government rules and procedures, adding that the commission has no authority to pursue degrees confirmation on its own. He alleged that HEC chairman Dr Javed Leghari was violating the law to become a hero. "If he wishes to gain popularity through media, he should resign first and then fulfil his dreams." He cannot violate rules and regulations of HEC, the minister added.
Responding to a question, the federal minister said he will consult the law ministry before dispatching the HEC report on fake degrees to the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Education. The minister also warned standing committee chairman Abid Sher Ali to stop interfering unduly in the affairs of government institutions, adding, if he also had dreams to become popular through such unacceptable practices, he must resign from his office too.
Responding to minister for education's press talk, chairman standing committee on education Abid Sher Ali told a private TV channel from London that the government was deliberately attempting to derail the verification process of parliamentarians' degrees. He termed it undemocratic move by an elected government.
He said Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali's statement regarding role of HEC and standing committee was controversial. In this respect, he recalled his statement a couple of days back in which he hailed HEC role in verifying the MPs' degrees. He said it was in favour of the government and people to let the institution work impartially and independently.
