Deputy Governor (Operations) State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Yaseen Anwar has said that banks can open their selected branches on Saturdays desirably, as settlements between them would take place on subsequent Monday.

Talking to Business Recorder, Anwar said that the SBP notification to banks needed to be read carefully as it states that SBP offices shall remain closed on Saturdays as part of the government plan to tackle energy crisis.

"It is very common in other countries, with two weekly holidays, to open selected branches of banks on Saturdays, however, settlements take place on the subsequent Monday", he added.
