"Next three years have been earmarked for the people of Pakistan. I have given directions to my economic advisor for completing the homework and to devise the medium for extending relief to the masses," Gilani said. He said our economy was suffering due to law and order situation in the country and our law enforcement agencies are taking every possible step to combat the menace of terrorism.
He said the Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FoDP) countries were willing to help Pakistan in addressing this issue, which if tackled, will help boost agriculture, industry and create job opportunities. In addition, he said the issue of security will be the main agenda item of his discussion with President Barack Obama during the bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Nuclear Summit.
The Prime Minister said non-hindrance by army in the passage of 18th Amendment Bill shows the maturity of the institutions. Asked as if the removal of 58-2b would create the danger of future army interventions, the Prime Minister said, the said article was practically irrelevant because it has always been validated by the court.
Gilani said our institutions are getting matured and the passage of 18th Amendment is an example of it. He disagreed to the view that political parties would no more be required to have party elections by amendment to Article 17 (4) and Political Parties Act will not be affected by the amendment, which already had made it mandatory.
