The SSGC's total outstanding amount against KESC has increased to Rs 18 billion The managing director of SSGC, Dr Faizullah Abbasi while talking to media after a meeting with Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Navedd Qamar at company's head office here on Sunday said that SSGC has raised gas supply to KESC by up to 50mmcf per day, as promised.
He said that SSGC has devised a quantifiable strategy for reducing unaccounted-for-gas (UFG), or line losses, within the next three years to a satisfactory level. "Through an yearly reduction plan, the SSGC intends to rehabilitate its distribution network, install new automatic pressure management systems as well as smart meters and carry out massive leak rectification and theft control", he added.
He said these measures would help the SSGC to make substantial UFG savings in the next three years, and would considerably improve its earnings. He said that the Minister was given a detailed presentation about various issues.
The MD of SSGC said that the current UFG, or line losses, of the company are 8.16 percent. "We want to bring down these losses to at least 7 percent in the next three years", he said, and added that "we want to stop the rising trend in UFG first, then to bring them down". The minister was told that SSGC was working on a project to add 100mmcf of gas per day in its network through LPG air mix for KESC and other power plants by next winter season.
He said that total demand of KESC is around 220mmcf, and the proposed project would help in meeting total demand of the power company. The meeting was also attended by Manzoor Muzaffar, DG (Gas), and officials of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline. Top management of SSGC, including Hassan Nawab DMD (Operations and Planning), Rahat Kamal Siddiqui Sr General Manager (Engineering Services) and Salim Ahmed Mugal Sr General Manager (Distribution) were also present on the occasion.
