The death toll of deadly suicide blast at Nishat Chowk mounted to 12 as three more critically injured succumbed to their wounds at local hospitals here on Monday. According to Saidu Sharif hospital and district police here, 12 people including a security officials and three women were among the dead and 35 others injured.

The dead identified are Qasim Khan, Sheran, Bahar, Noor Wali, Luqman, Wali Muhammad, Mura, Muhammad Khan, UK born Balanda (Islamic name Amina). According to Swat Media Centre, the suicide bomber blew himself up when the vehicle of security forces was passing through Nishat Chowk.

Resultantly, seven persons including a security personnel died on the spot while five later expired of their critical wounds at local hospitals. The injured were rushed to Saidu Sharif hospital for treatment. After the blast, firing is also heard that created fear among the residents.

Four vehicles were destroyed and several shops caught fire as result of the blast. Later, the fire brigade extinguished the fire. Police cordoned off the area after explosion and entry and exit points around Mingora city have also been sealed. Police and rescue teams have rushed to the site of the explosion. It was the first deadly explosion after six long months in Swat.

NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti Monday while strongly condemning the deadly blast at Nishat Chowk in Mingora Swat district has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives and ordered probe of the blast. The Chief Minister directed the hospital administration to provide better medical facilities to injured.

He said that elements involved in this heinous act would be brought to justice. Expressing his strong resolve to fight militancy and terrorism, the Chief Minister said the provincial government will continue take action till elimination of last terrorist. The sacrifices rendered by our brave security forces, police and people of Malakand Division would not go waste. He prayed for departed souls and early recovery of the injured. The government under its package for martyrs and injured would provide compensation to victims families.

NWFP Minister for Environment Wajid Ali Khan has strongly condemned the blast and termed it coward act. He expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious life and directed the hospital administration to provide all best facilities to injured. He prayed Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and early recovery of the wounded.
