Engineer Army Corp Lieutenant Colonel Zameer Afridi has said that Pakistan army has ensured facilities in 373 schools of the far-flung areas of NWFP at a cost of Rs 544 million under President of Pakistan Education Reforms Sector in a short span of time.

Talking to media men here on Saturday, Colonel Zameer Afridi said that Army fund for education department under President Pakistan Education Reforms Sector was initiated in 2007 at the request of the education department. Under this programme, basic facilities, including construction of more rooms, boundary wall and computer laboratories were provided to selected primary and middle schools in all the four federating units.

As many as 167 schools were repaired, 261 class rooms, seven boundary walls, 106 latrines constructed and 60 computer laboratories set up in district Swabi, he said, adding that repair work was done in 12 schools in Peshawar besides constructing 32 class rooms, three boundary walls, two computer laboratories and latrines. Similarly, he continued that nine schools were renovated in district Kohat, 13 new classrooms were constructed, five boundary walls, three computer laboratories and 12 wash rooms.

A total of 144 schools were renovated in D I Khan, 212 class rooms were constructed, 15 boundary walls, 28 computer laboratories and 230 latrines, he added. Lieutenant Colonel Zameer Afridi said that repair work was carried out in 21 schools in Kurram agency, 13 class rooms were constructed, three boundary walls, 20 computer laboratories and 18 latrines.

In Bajaur agency, he continued that repair work was conducted in 23 schools, 45 class rooms were constructed, three boundary walls, 16 computer laboratories and 40 latrines besides providing electricity and clean drinking water facilities in these schools. He lauded the co-operation of the people of these areas during the repair work as with out their support repair work on such large scale would not have been possible.
