Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that setting up "Punjab Health Commission" to help improve medical sector, provision of quality healthcare facilities to the common man, enhancing the performance of hospitals and to introduce check and balance in healthcare system in the province.

He was presiding over a meeting on Punjab Health Commission Act 2010 here on Saturday disclosed an official. The Chief Minister directed to constitute a high level committee under the supervision of provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan that will hold negotiations with doctors' organisations on their reservations about Punjab Health Commission Act. The committee will comprise elected representatives, senior officers of the Health Department Punjab and the representatives of doctors, he added.

According to him, uplift of health sector is a top priority of the present regime and PML-N was taking concrete measures in this regard. It is our country and we have to make its health delivery system more effective and vibrant. We are well aware the plight of health sector, therefore uplift of this sector has become a prime need of the hour.

Measures should be taken for the improvement in healthcare sector across the board above any political affiliation so that ailing humanity could be served in real sense. Appointment of 34,000 educators and police officials purely on merit is the proof that present government is implementing the merit policy for the improvement of the government.

Doctors are associated with a noble profession and setting up of Punjab Health Commission is not against any one. Government authorities and people associated with the medical profession should evolve such a framework which would be appreciated by the people as this is our common responsibility. He said the committee constituted under the supervision of provincial Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan will soon submit its report.

Earlier, Secretary Health Punjab Anwar Ahmad Khan gave detailed briefing regarding the scope of Punjab Health Commission and highlighted the reservations of the doctors. The representatives of doctors, including Dr Yasim Rashid, Dr Akhtar Rashid and Dr Tanvir Anwar, also expressed their point of views on Act.
