A meeting of the Distribution Companies (Discos) and NTDC to review the mid-yearly progress was held at Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) Headquarters, Wapda House, here on Saturday. MD Pepco Tahir Basharat Cheema presided over the meeting. The meeting reviewed the progress of year 2009 and discussed future plans for next 6 months, said a Pepco press release.

In the meeting, the CEOs presented their plans on line losses, distribution system, overall recovery plan, and maintenance and system augmentation programme. Multiple system augmentation and infrastructure improvement programmes were planned for execution with enormous human endeavour, technical expertise and financial investment, through various developmental projects. The CEOs told the conference that new poles have been erected and a number of transformers have also been placed to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.

While evaluating performances of the officials, MD Pepco ordered to take stringent action against the non-performing SEs, XENs and SDOs and asked them to submit a report within 2 days. Addressing the CEOs, Cheema called for special efforts to reduce line losses through concerted efforts based on strategic vision, which is being focused on developing extra vigilance, administrative and service quality aspects of operations, and innovation and credibility, based on research.

This research is blended with global trends, so that requisite actions are taken by Discos. Cheema asked the CEOs to put in extra efforts for the recovery of arrears worth billions of rupees, from the dead defaulters and make their names public through the print and electronic media.

With regard to over billing, he said, it must be addressed judiciously and not a single extra unit should be charged by the Discos. He also instructed that strict security measures be taken for the security of Disco installations and grid stations of NTDC. "The men and material should be secured from ongoing sabotage activities which have gained momentum in the country recently.

All CEOs and NTDC should monitor its transmission network with the help of Police and do the rehabilitation work on war footings, in shortest possible time," he said. MD Pepco observed that though situation about power generation is improving, the CEOs and General Managers should make tireless efforts to enhance the improvement in every field, especially load management and its distribution network.
