Former judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday on Saturday said that education is an agent of change in the society and the religion of Islam has prioritised it for social uplift. While addressing the opening ceremony of Shalamar Medical and Dental College, Lahore, he lamented that the link between book and reader has weakened in the society and no one is ready to extend due respect to the pen.

Talking about Shalamar Medical and Dental College (SM&DC), Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday said that the college has been established with the objective of providing quality education and training in the field of medicine taking into consideration the dearth of good colleges and the wide gap between the number of students seeking admissions and the number of seats available. He said that about 25 per cent students in the college would get free education.

Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday further said that SMl & DC will not only be the best medical institution in the country but will also rate among the best medical college in the world. He praised all the donors who contributed for setting up this college. Speaking on the occasion, Principal of SM & DC, Lahore, Dr Muhammad Zahid Bashir said that prime focus of the college is on quality education.

He said the college would provide an academic environment with research facilities leading to excellence in patient care. With its modern and contemporary outlook, the college is going to serve as the emblem for medical education in Pakistan in the 21st century, he said.
