The Punjab Agriculture Department has advised the growers to sow the spring plantation of maize crop in plains of the province from January 15 to end of February to ensure a bumper production. According to the department sowing of hybrid seeds of spring season could ensure achieving yield over 100 maund per acre.

Agricultural experts have further advised that if they sow maize crop through drilling then use hybrid seed from 12 to 15 kilogram per acre and in case of sowing on sides the ratio of seeds should be eight to 10 kilograms per acre. They also advised the growers to use balanced fertilisers for the maize crop after chemical examination of their land.

However, as a general instruction they said that they use two bags each of DAP and Potassium Sulphate in medium fertile land at the time of sowing and administer one bag of Urea when the crop grow to one feet and one bag of Urea again when the crop grow to 2.5 to three feet. Similarly, administer 1.5 bag of Urea fertiliser at the time of flowering.
