He added that initially 15,000 children should be enrolled in the Pakistan Sweet Homes and later the project would be expanded according to availability of resources. Briefing Members of National Assembly Standing Committee on Social Welfare who visited the Orphan centre here at G-15 led by Committee Chairperson Rubina Qaimkhawani, Zamurd Khan said that these orphan homes will provide quality education to the children of 4-6 years of age group and PBM will support them till the beginning of their career.
Zamurd Khan also called upon the civil society, voluntary organisations and indigenous philanthropy sectors to come together and join hands for strengthening the initiatives for the welfare of the deserving. Rubina Qaimkhawani speaking on the occasion said, "Children, according to Islam are entitled to various rights.
The first and foremost of these rights is the right to be properly brought up, raised and educated which means that without any discrimination every child should be given suitable, sufficient, sound and adequate religious, ethical and moral guidance throughout their life".
She further said that it is a prime responsibility of the government and society to provide them the quality education and living standards, adding that every effort would be made to enable them to spend their life independently. He said that PBM was making efforts in uplift of neglected segment of the society especially the poor and orphans and its various projects have assured the full support for them in terms of financial and technical assistance.
She also lauded the endeavours of Pakistan Sweet Homes staff for taking good care of children and providing them facilities. She ensured complete assistance by the Government and Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education and urged the media to play its role by highlighting development projects.
Former Minister Chaudhry Yasin on the occasion announced free plot for constructing Pakistan Sweet Home at Kashmir Housing Society. Members National Standing Committee on Social Welfare Parveen Masud, Dr Zil a Huma, Imrana Saleem, Maulana Ismat Ullah and Shahnaz Saleem also addressed the ceremony.
