There is no financial crisis in the province and the financial position of the Punjab government is stable; there is no truth in the news item regarding financial crisis and leasing of state land in Cholistan for 90 years.

According to a Punjab government's spokesman said here on Thursday, financial position of the Punjab government is strong and not only salaries are being given to provincial government employees timely but funds of Rs 125 billion have also been provided for Annual Development Programme. He also said the government's overdraft is within the limit set by the State Bank.

"The government has also received the first instalment of Rs 5 billion from the net profit of electricity from the federal government. It has returned more than Rs 4 billion out of the loan of Rs 50 billion to the State Bank, which indicates its sound financial position," he added.

According to him, in order to stop illegal cultivation on state land, decision has been taken to give this land to local cultivators and agriculture graduates on lease. State land is not being given on 90 years lease but the land outside the prohibited zone would be given to the local farmers on lease for five years while the land within prohibited zone will be given on lease for only one year.
