DCO Saeed Wahlah has said that the social change in behaviours is vital for providing the equal opportunities of development in different sectors of life to the women folk. He stated this while addressing the inaugural session of four-day consultation workshop held under the arrangement of an NGO Social Sector (SOCSEC). The workshop was attended by EDO Finance Iqbal Hussain, DOC Liaqat Chatha, EDOs, DOs of other government departments and TMAs.

The DCO said that the environment of gender equality should be created for bringing the women folk in the main stream of national development so that the pace of social and economic development could be accelerated by using the potential of women. He said that women should be provided social and political training for their capacity building and they should be provided ample opportunities of jobs in public sector institutions for strengthening the base of social sectors.

The DCO said that a gender strategy unit is working here under social welfare department for achieving the objectives of Gender Reforms Action Programme (GRAP) under which women are being motivated for career development and participating in other women welfare projects.

He said that selection of Faisalabad for compiling policy framework under gender strategy by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was a significant step and the district government had extended every possible co-operation with the SOSEC engaged in the gender equality strategy. He appreciated the efforts of concerned NGO and said that the objectives of gender's equality could be achieved following the recommendations of this NGO. Riffat Haq, Sara and Dr Muhammad Ajmal also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the salient features of final draft of the policy compiled after the detailed study regarding gender equality under gender strategy programme.
