Annisul Huq, President of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), will be inducted as President of Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Saarc CCI) in Dhaka on January 17. He will take over from Tariq Sayeed at the end of his two-year term. The ceremony is being organised by BCCI. A 26-member Pakistan delegation left here for Dhaka to participate in the handing over, taking over ceremony.

Besides the President, seven Vice-Presidents, one each from Saarc member countries, will also be inducted. Iftikhar Ali Malik, who has completed his two-year term as Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice-President, has again been nominated for the post to continue for another two years. A seminar will also be held on the occasion on 'Regional Co-operation in South Asia: Potential for Joint Ventures and Investment'.

The main objective of Saarc CCI is to stand as a bridge between public and private sectors across the region, focusing on the following core areas: creating awareness building on key economic issues, develop global linkages, work closely with governments, NGOs, develop an institutional framework for supporting economic co-operation, and develop linkages with the Saarc Secretariat to effectively contribute towards economic issues. Saarc was formed in 1985, and Afghanistan entered Saarc CCI as 8th member in 2007.
