Provincial Election Commissioner (PEC) Muhammad Afzal Khan on Saturday visited the offices of Returning Officer PF-83 Swat IV and chaired a meeting to review the arrangements made for smooth conduct of the by-elections in the constituency scheduled for January 28.

Muhammad Afzal Khan appreciated the election arrangements and directed the staff to remain in touch with the district administration for ensuring smooth, fair and transparent sailing of the by-elections. The PEC appealed the people to exercise their right of balloting without any fear on January 28. District Returning Officer Shafique Ahmed and Returning Officer Fazle Hakeem told the meeting that arrangements have been finalised for the by polls.

The distribution of election material is underway and it would be handed over to the Presiding Officers after training of the polling staff. The total registered voters in the constituency are 114,574, which included 69,232 males and 45,351 females. Similarly 80 polling stations would be set up including 36 for men and 33 for women and nine combined.

The meeting was informed that 22 polling stations have been set up in damaged buildings. In all 217 polling booths would be established which included 125 for men and 92 for women. The election staff for the by-polls consist of 47 male and 33 female presiding officers, and 125 each male and 92 each female assistant presiding officers and male and female polling officers.
