The injured persons were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi. A heavy contingent of Jackson police reached PSO terminal II in Keamari where the clash took place and controlled the situation. However, the police did not file cases against any group, intelligence incharge at Jackson Police Station, ASI Tanveer told Business Recorder.
According to sources, the dispute arose when PSO revoked the fuel supply agreement with Mengal Brothers Transports and awarded the contract to Al-Hajj Transports. Mengal Brother was supplying fuel to Nato since 2002 under an agreement.
The award of contract led to the clash, as the Mengal Brothers was of the view that Al-Hajj is already having a contract with Shell Pakistan for supplying fuel to Nato. Sources said the agreement cancellation has caused Mengals billions of rupees losses as they have made investment in trucks dedicated for fuel supply across the Pak-Afghan border.
The Mengals alleged that the ministry of petroleum has forced PSO cancel contract with us. The fuel supply will remain suspended until both the groups reach an agreement, which could take weeks, sources said.
