Punjab Agriculture Minister Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh has claimed that imbalance usage of fertilisers in wheat crop is severely affecting it's per acre yield. He was talking to a delegation of the growers here on Saturday, said a spokesman of the department.

Agricultural experts present in the meeting advised the wheat growers that to achieve a bumper crop they should use Urea fertilisers in an appropriate quantity and at right time after the chemical examination of the land and keeping in view the pace of growth of the plant.

They said that one bag of urea fertiliser with first or second water could ensure maximum per acre yield. They also advised the growers that not to let water decrease at the critical junctures of the wheat crop. Agricultural experts also advised for using suitable weedicides in consultation with the local agricultural experts for eradication of weed from the wheat crop. They said that water quantity should be from 100 to 120 litters per acre.

The experts also advised the growers to use t-jet or flat fan nosel for spraying weedicides on wheat crop and the spray should be conducted in afternoon. Spray should be done when the plant has three to four leaves and no place in the field should be left without space. Spray should also not be repeated at any place, they further advised.

Punjab agriculture minister said that if growers ensure appropriate quantity of fertilisers, irrigation on critical junctures and timely control of weeds then per acre yield could be expected over 50 maunds per acre. This would help Pakistan to achieve more than 25 million tons of wheat production enabling it to export the surplus and earn precious foreign exchange.
