National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has so far issued as many as 29,598 debit cards among the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of South Waziristan and Tank. The government has distributed an amount of Rs 191.481 millions among the displaced people of Fata area, consolidated data of Nadra revealed.

The federal government has announced to provide Rs 5,000 stipend to each displaced family of the tribal agencies due to the ongoing operation against terrorism. For this purpose, Nadra was assigned the task to register the IDPs, scrutinise the record and issue the debit card to the genuine IDPs.

It's worth mentioning here that on Friday in upper house of the parliament, Senators from Fata area raised many questions and accused the government that it was not providing the much-needed financial aid to the IDPs of South Waziristan.

According to Nadra data out of 59,019 applications received from the IDPs of South Waziristan, a total of 38,524 families were declared eligible and the data was shared with NGOs for the provisioning of food and non-food assistance along with the preparation of their debit cards.

According to Nadra officials, so far it has issued 22,594 cards to the IDPs while the remaining cards are in the process and will be issued in a few weeks. Among the IDPs staying in Tank district, Nadra has so far issued 7,004 debit cards.

To facilitate the IDPs it has established a complaint cell in the Nadra headquarters, besides establishing a contact centre at UBL, working round the clock for redressing the problems of the IDPs. After the involvement of Nadra, process of registration and verification of the IDPs was made transparent resulting in efficient relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
