"However, complaints of negligence must not be ignored in the larger interest of patients and the masses," he said. He said the issues raised by the doctors would also be referred to the Prime Minister so that false complaints were not made the basis for action against doctors and nurses. The delegation apprised the President of alleged vindictive treatment meted out to doctors after the death of two patients in two Lahore hospitals.
The doctors also demanded restructuring of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) for its effective and better working, a raise in the salary package of medical graduates in grade 17 and 18 throughout the country and tax rebate to the community. Later, President Pakistan Medical Association, Dr Akhtar Rasheed, thanked President Asif Ali Zardari for giving a patient hearing to their grievances.
