Highlighting the various achievements of the PPP-led government over the last over one and a half years, including the successes in the war against terrorism and on the political front, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Sunday said the instant non-implementation of the Charter of Democracy (CoD) has been the biggest mistake.

"We should have immediately implemented the CoD, as it was signed by Benazir Bhutto and PML(N) chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. Not implementing the CoD immediately was a biggest mistake," Gilani told a group of media-persons here the Prime Minister House. He, however, reiterated the government's resolve to implement this historic charter and said the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms, with all political parties on board, was working on fast track basis and will soon present its recommendations before the House.

Prime Minister Gilani, who was scheduled to visit Lakki Marwat on Sunday to meet the injured and the families of the victims of January 1 deadliest suicide attack in Volley Ball ground but could not leave due to bad weather, had a frank interaction with the newsmen and spoke on various issues of national importance.

He said the successful military operations in Malakand and South Waziristan to check terrorism and militancy, Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package, signing of the consensus 7th National Finance Commission (NFC) Award and the Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self-Governance Order were the major achievements of the present government.
