According to police sources, two estate agents Pir Ghulam Rasool Jan Sarhandi and Jahangir Khan had a dispute over possession of a flat in Iqra City, located on main Abul Hassan Isphani Road since last two months. On Friday night, both the parties gathered at the Sarhandi Estate Agency opposite to Iqra City to resolve the issue by the local activist of a political party Jumman Gutka in the chair, they added.
When the talks were underway in the presence of area police, someone of the participants raised objection, which led to exchange of hot words by both the parties, resultantly, an unidentified man opened straight fires, leaving Jumman Gukta and police constable Akhtar Hussain seriously injured. Initially, the injured were shifted to the Patel Hospital and later they were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate and Medical Center (JPMC) due to their precarious condition where Jumman succumbed to his wounds.
However, the condition of injured cop was stated very critical, they said. Police said dozens of enraged supporters took to streets and set ablaze four mini-buses one at Jauhar Complex, two in limits of Gulistan-e-Jauhar and one in Mubina Town, besides a hotel at Safora Chowrangi. The protesters also staged protest demonstration at Mosmiyat and Safora Chowrangi where they also set on fire tyres and blocked the road.
They said that the crossfire between these two groups took place at Safora Chowrangi that was taken under control by the police in few minutes, however, two bystanders identified as Rahim Bux, 60 and his son Allah Bux received bullet injuries in the firing at Safora Chowk.
Talking to Business Recorder, TPO Gulshan-e-Iqbal Arib Mahar said that both the groups had been engaged in land grabbing and they were fighting over a flat in Iqra City. The builder of the apartment has fled and everyone in the area is trying to take custody of flat there due to which such incidents takes place, he added.
He said Sachal Police on behalf of the state have registered FIR No 147/2009 under sections 147, 148, 149 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code against 30 to 40 unidentified armed persons. Another FIR No 532/2009 was also registered on complaint of estate agent Pir Ghulam Jan Sarhandi son of Pir Ghulam Rasool Sarhandi against Deen Mohammad, Tariq Tareen, Shah Kalam and others for kidnapping his cousin Pir Farrukh Shah Sarhandi.
On the complaint of Khalid Khan son of Qalandar Khan, FIR No 533/2009 was also registered against Pir Ghulam Jan Sarhandi, Pir Farrukh Jan Sarhandi, and others for occupying the flat. However, no arrest was made till filing of the story. Separately, a man was gunned down in firing by the unidentified, armed persons in the jurisdiction of Manghopir police.
Police said two unknown armed persons on a motorcycle opened straight fire on Hashim son of Noor Mohammad on Main Manghopir Road, leaving him dead no the spot. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy where doctors said the deceased had received three bullets in his chest. Police have registered a case and started further investigation.
Separately, police arrested a dacoit after a brief encounter in the jurisdiction of Mauripur police. Police said two dacoits were busy in looting citizens on the Manghopir Road when two constables patrolling the area signalled them they started straight fires on police. Resultantly, police also retaliated, leaving Jahangir son of Mirza Khan seriously injured while his other accomplice managed to flee. No case was registered till filing of this story.
