The NWFP government has announced to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday (September 20) as the local Ruet-e-Hilal committee received 44 witnesses of moon sighting here on Saturday night. The NWFP government had already announced that it will support the decision of local Ruet-e-Hilal committee, headed by Mufti Shahab-ud-Din Populzai, and directed the Zonal committee members to sit with members of local committee on Saturday for observing the process of receiving witnesses of moon sighting.

NWFP Senior Minister, Bashir Bilour, Provincial Minister for Religious Affairs, Nimroz Khan and Provincial Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain also attended the meeting of both local and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees held at historic Qasim Ali Khan Masjid at Qissa Khawani Bazaar.

In the announcement, Mufti Shahab-ud-Din Populzai said that about 44 witnesses of moon sighting were received by the committee members and confirmed report about 200 witnesses were received from Mardan, Charsadda and some other districts.

He said majority of the members of local Ruet-e-Hilal committee are religious scholars and were satisfied over the witnesses of moon sighting and have decided to announced observance of Eid on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, NWFP Senior Minister Bashir Bilour said provincial government will support the decision of local ulema and observe Eid on Sunday.
