At least 15 persons, including four women, died due to heat waves and soaring temperature during the last 24 hours in Southern Punjab. Giving the details the Health authorities said, 'Four people died in Sahiwal, two each in Bahawalpur, Jehanian, Rojhan and Yazman and three in Vehari.

While total 142 patients of Gastro enteritis were admitted to the hospitals in Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan and Khanewal. Dr Javed Shaukat of DHQ Hospital Sahiwal confirmed that four persons Fateh bibi (70) Hidayat ullah (60) Muhammad Nawaz and Muhammad Iqbal died of sun strokes.

They were taken to hospital in critical condition and could not survive. In addition to this CMO of Bahawal-Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur, confirmed two heat related deaths of Fahd Riaz and Mubashar. Similarly DHQ Hospital Vehari emergency in charge Dr Mushtaq Ahmed confirmed three death due to scorching heat waves and they are identified as Elahi bibi, Rehmat Din and Murtaza.

Meanwhile, Chaudhry Muhammad Asghar and an unidentified beggar found dead in Yazman where temperature shot up to 49 degree Celsius, Ghulam Rasul and an unidentified person in Rojhan (Rajanpur district) and Mst Fazlan bibi and Amir Hussain in Jehania.

The local weather bureau had earlier warned the state government that the heat wave condition was likely to prevail for at least 48 hours in interior parts of the Southern Punjab during the current month. Met Office said that temperature in Multan was 45.2 degree Celsius, Vehari 48, Dera Ghazi Khan 47, Cholistan desert 50 and Bahawalpur 49 degree Celsius.
