The federal cabinet on April 8, 2009 had snubbed the Ministry of Water and Power for requesting withdrawal of its summary on advancement of clocks by one hour on the pretext that business community has not been taken on board as yet, sources close to Additional Secretary Water and Power, Zarar Aslam told Business Recorder.

Minister for Textile, Rana Farooq Saeed and Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf, however, denied that any such impression was given by the Prime Minister in the cabinet meeting. Documents available with this correspondent reveal that the Prime Minister had snubbed the Ministry of Water and Power, when it asked for withdrawal of its own summary submitted on March 31, 2009.

"The sponsoring Division requested for withdrawal of the summary on the ground that business community hadn't yet been taken on board. It was, however, observed that such lobbies should not be allowed to influence the decisions based on merit which was fully documented," the sources added.

According to the sources, the cabinet had discussed the matter thoroughly previously and had taken decision in the interest of efficiency and conservation of electricity. "Since no valid reason exists for review of the cabinet decision, it should continue to be followed and implemented. Accordingly, day light saving should be adopted automatically and regularly," the sources concluded.
