Talking to newsmen here, he said the government is working on greater reconciliation policy, envisioned by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, adding that Charter of Democracy, signed by the two former Prime Ministers would be implemented.
He further said that PPP believes in reconciliation and expressed the hope that current political crisis would be resolved amicably. To a question, the Prime Minister said that PPP is still committed to its stance to repeal the 17th Amendment in the constitution, and had already offered PML-N to bring a consensus bill in this regard. The Prime Minister said that restoration of Chief Justice would be decided by the Parliament and his government would accept whatever the Parliament decides in this regard.
To a question, he said that filing of review petition in the Supreme Court cannot be ruled out against the decision of Supreme Court, disqualifying Sharif brothers. Defending the imposition of governors rule in Punjab, the Prime Minister said that it was the need of the hour, and it is our effort to resolve the issue amicably.
About the reconciliation process, the Prime Minister said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Asfandyar Wali Khan met the President to brief him on the outcome of their meetings with PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif. Chief Minister Balochistan will also meet the President to apprise him of his talks with the PML-N leader, he added. To a question, Gilani said the government will hold consultations for convening of All Parties Conference (APC), as proposed by the PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
He said a parliamentary committee is reviewing the situation in the tribal areas. He said if the planned long march of lawyers remained peaceful and within the ambit of law, the government will have no objection to it. "Even last time we facilitated the participants of a similar long march."
