Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani pledged to protect rights of all the four provinces and empowerment of the people as per the constitution.

While addressing a big public meeting at Qasim Bela after performing ground breaking of two road projects, Masoom Shah road and main Qasim Bela road here, the Prime Minister said that rights of the people of all the four provinces will be protected and provincial autonomy will be ensured.

He said that people will be empowered through parliament and added that their elected representatives are duty bound to solve their problems by holding open Kutcheries in all the four provinces. He said that legislation would be introduced to ensure good governance, solve problems of the poor people and to strengthen the institutions. He said that PPP believes in the indiscriminate accountability of the corrupt elements and will establish a new accountability institution to make it happen.

He said that he has disbanded the task force on employment so that ministers and elected representatives should go to the people in their respective constituencies and solve their problems on the spot. He said that talented and deserving youth should get jobs in accordance with their qualification.

He said that party enjoys the support of the people and was taking revolutionary measures to provide basic facilities to the masses at their doorstep with special emphasis on health and education. The Prime Minister said that a new accountability institution would be set up in accordance with the charter of democracy to hold corrupt elements accountable without any discrimination.

He said that new legislation will be introduced for the purpose and it will be acceptable to all.

The Prime Minister commented that the NAB had lost its utility and its credibility had come down to zero due to political victimization. Mentioning his case, the PM said that my acquittal by the high court vindicated his stance of innocence.

When asked about power shortage problem, the he said that UAE has recently gifted a 350 Megawatt power plant to Pakistan adding that more such plants will reach the country. Yusuf Raza Gilani said that government was also making efforts to enhance its power generation capacity to overcome the electricity shortfall problem. To a question, the he said, he had talked to the Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to get Multan declared a big city and the Chief Minister had proposed to make a joint announcement in this regard.

Prime Minister Gilani promised that government will extend full support in providing relief to the journalists with regard to establishment of journalists colony in Multan.
