BR CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Earlier, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has accepted Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's request to send the chief of Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to India to assist in investigating the perpetrators of the Mumbai terrorist attacks.
Prime Minister Gilani telephoned the Indian Prime Minister on Friday and strongly condemned acts of terrorism in Mumabi. He termed the incident as inhuman and condemnable from all aspects. During the conversation, the Indian Prime Minister said that the preliminary report pointed towards Karachi, and stressed the need for increased intelligence sharing and cooperation to evolve a joint strategy against terrorism and extremism.
The Indian Prime Minister requested that the ISI Director General visit India for exchange of information in this regard. Prime Minister Gilani, who said that after working out the modalities, the ISI chief would visit India at the earliest, accepted his request. The Prime Minister also extended his government's full support for jointly combating extremism and terrorism and also offered help in investigating this incident.
Gilani strongly condemned the acts of terrorism in Mumbai, and said that Pakistan was also a victim of terrorism. He appreciated the fact that the Indian Prime Minister was the first one to telephone him after the Marriott hotel blast. Prime Minister Gilani expressed sympathy on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan with the Indian Prime Minister, and extended sympathy to Sonia Gandhi, the people of India and particularly the families of those who lost their near and dear ones in these acts of barbarism.
