Islamabad High Court on Wednesday accepted a petition for regular hearing about placing the name of former president Pervez Musharraf and others on Exit Control List (ECL) for their alleged involvement in a massacre during Lal Mosque operation.

The single bench of the Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam after hearing the preliminary arguments of the counsel accepted the petition and ordered to fix the case on August 21 (Thursday). Chairman of Defence Human Rights Organisation, Khalid Khawaja filed the petition making Pervez Musharraf, former Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, former Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali,

Chief Commissioner and several others as respondents. He prayed in his petition that the former president and interior minister could flee the country; therefore, their names along with other respondents should be placed on ECL.

The petitioner also prayed the court to direct senior police officials and Aabpara police station to register First Information Report (FIR) against former president Pervez Musharraf, former interior minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, chief commissioner, deputy commissioner, General Tariq Majeed and Inspector General of Police Islamabad.

He alleged that these people were responsible for the murder of hundreds of innocent people inside Lal Mosque. The petitioner said that an attempt was made to register FIR against these people at Aabpara police station but the SHO had refused. Later, he took the matter to the District and Sessions Judge Islamabad who also refused to hear the case.

The petitioner had prayed that former president should be stopped from going abroad. Earlier, Khalid Khawaja had filed an application in the court on the same issue but the registrar office of the court had returned the application after raising objections. Khalid Khawaja then filed a proper petition in the court after removing the objections, which the court had accepted for hearing.
