A seven-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, has been constituted to hear contempt notices, issued to Federal and Punjab governments against deportation of Nawaz Sharif to Saudi Arabia, in violation of court orders of August 24, 2007.

The other members of the bench are Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Sardar Mohamad Raza, Justice Faqir Mohammad Khokhar and Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmad. The court has issued notices to Prime Minister, Punjab Chief Minister, Interior Minister, Interior Secretary, Punjab IGP, PIA Chairman, Civil Aviation DG, and Rangers DG for October 17, 2007.

The court has also ordered PIA Chairman and Civil Aviation DG to submit a report of flight operations, landing and takeoff schedules of September 10, 2007 of all airports. Meanwhile, a close relative of Nawaz Sharif said that the Sharif brothers would come to Pakistan between November 15 and 30, 2007 to lead their party in the general elections.

Political analysts in Federal capital say that the sitting government and the national and provincial assemblies would be completing their terms in November, and new political alliances are in the making. The president of the ruling Muslim League (Q) left Islamabad for Jeddah on Tuesday evening to perform Umrah. He is likely to make contact with the leadership of PML(N), including Nawaz Sharif, in an effort to unite their factions and fight the general election from one platform.

The 'Chaudharies of Gujrat' would be more comfortable to share power with their former party leader Nawaz Sharif than with Benazir Bhutto as the two families have deep-rooted enmity.
