Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) chairman Tariq Hameed left his office on Saturday afternoon, and his successor will assume the charge on Monday. Engineer Tariq had resigned from his post on September 3, 2007 due to some personal problems and illness but he was directed by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to continue till appointment of new Wapda chief.

On Saturday afternoon, Tariq Hameed was bid farewell by Member, Power, Fazal Ahmad Khan, Member, Water, Muhammad Mushtaq, Director Public Relation Abid Saeed, personal staff and general manager Admin Brigadier Najam-ul-Saqib.

Tariq Hameed left the Wapda House and his colleagues with a heavy heart because of his more than three years long attachment with them. An emotional and touchy scene was observed at the time of his departure. Tariq paid glowing tributes to his colleagues for their co-operation during his tenure.

The new Wapda Chairman, Shakeel Durani, a former bureaucrat, had recently retired as Pakistan Railways Chairman. He will be briefed on the administrative structure of Wpada on Monday. It is pertinent to mention here that Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi will also visit Wapda House on September 13, 2007. The minister will attend a meeting, and the Wapda chief will brief him on the ongoing water projects.
