Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said the PML and its allied parties are confident of winning the mandate of the people in the upcoming general elections. He stated this while talking to Federal Political Affairs Minister Engr. Amir Muqaam here at the Prime Minister's House on Sunday.

The prime minister said that party tickets would be awarded purely on the basis of merit and after consultation within the party and with its coalition partners. He said the current international and national environments demand continuity in the system to ensure stability and solidarity of the country.

In this context, Shaukat Aziz said, the PML and its allied parties would make all out efforts to create conducive political climate to re-elect the President in uniform from the incumbent assemblies.

The prime minister said the PML believes that dialogue and negotiations with other political parties would help evolve a code of conduct for holding free, fair and transparent elections. The PML and its allied parties would jointly contest the forthcoming elections on the basis of their performance and would not enter into any deal with any political party, he added.

Highlighting the economic progress and prosperity achieved during the last seven years, Shaukat Aziz said the quantum of development projects initiated itself reflects the performance of the present government. He emphasised need for early completion of the ongoing projects so that the people at large could benefit from these facilities.

Amir Muqaam thanked the prime minister for his support towards the development activities throughout the country particularly in NWFP. He said that such an infrastructural expansion was never witnessed before in the history of the country and the PML is proud of its performance. He also said the PML and its allied parties are still committed to serving the people and the country under the present leadership.
