The newly formed All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) has said that the opposition parties have decided to take the issue of re-election of President General Pervez Musharraf to the Supreme Court in the coming 15 to 20 days, adding that all preparations have been completed in this regard.

At a joint press conference here on Saturday, the opposition parties also demanded of the President General Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Law Minister Wasi Zafar to tender resignations, since no ethical and legal justification is left for them to say in the corridors of power after the historic verdict of the apex court against the rulers.

Those present on the occasion were APDM Convenor and Chairman Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Raja Zafarul Haq, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) President Qazi Hussain Ahmed, PONM leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, PTI leader Sardar Azher Tariq Khan and PML-N secretary-general Zafar Iqbal Jhagrah.

They opined that those who were involved in filing the baseless reference against the Chief Justice have no justification to hold the offices further.

"We believe that General Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Law Minister Wasi Zafar and federal secretary law are not capable and they must resign", said Raja Zafarul Haq.

He said that central leaders of political parties including the APDM would be meeting on July 23 in Islamabad to chalk out a new strategy for launching movement against the rulers while public meetings would also be held in Quetta and in Rawalpindi on August 9 and 14, respectively.

"Holding of free and fair elections seem to be impossible as far as the role of General Musharraf is concerned", he feared. Hailing the Supreme Court verdict, the APDM Convenor said that the apex court gave a landmark decision in the 60-year judicial history of the country.

To a question, he said that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is determined to come back before the general elections. MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed said that the verdict was a ray of a hope for moving toward the new era of independence of judiciary, supremacy of the Parliament and rule of law in the country.

He hoped that now the apex court would decide whether General Pervez could contest the presidential election in uniform for the third term from the current assemblies.

Qazi further said that the opposition leaders have decided to take the case of General Pervez Musharraf in Supreme Court in coming 15 to 20 days saying all preparations have been made in this regard.

To a question regarding US direct action inside Pakistan, Qazi said that those involved in the suicide attacks in the country were serving American's interests to provide opportunity to the US to intervene in our country's affairs and asked the people to be united against such interventions of US.

Mehmood Khan Achakzai termed the Supreme Court verdict as good omen for the country's judicial system and has rejected the possibility of doctrine of necessity. He further said that now the judiciary and media would be free and people would be provided with their democratic rights.
