President General Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday called for a comprehensive strategy focused on military, political, administrative and economic components for success in fighting the threat of extremism and terrorism. Talking to Dr Eliot A. Cohen, Counsellor with the US Department of State, who called on at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

President Musharraf reaffirmed Pakistan's firm resolve to fight extremism and terrorism. The discussion focused on Pakistan-US relations and Afghanistan. The President underscored the importance of a broad-based and long-term Pakistan-US relationship.

He also highlighted the significance of Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZs) and appreciated the administration's efforts to mobilise resources for Fata Sustainable Development Plan. The President outlined the measures taken by Pakistan to help the stabilisation process in Afghanistan. President Musharraf also underlined that security along the border was a joint responsibility.

He said Pakistan was doing the utmost in ensuring security along the border and added that all sides had the responsibility to do their part in promoting security and stability in Afghanistan.

The President reiterated that Pakistan would continue to work with its international partners to see a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. Dr Eliot Cohen noted the importance the US attached to its relationship with Pakistan. He expressed the appreciation of the United States of America for Pakistan's counter-terrorism efforts. During the meeting, the US Embassy's Charge d' Affaires Peter W. Bodde was also present.
